Florence M. (Zmyewski) Sterniak

Englewood, FL-Florence M. (Zmyewski) Sterniak, age 87, formerly of Naugatuck, passed away at Englewood Community Hospital in Florida.  She was widow of Frank M. Sterniak.

Mrs. Sterniak was born in Naugatuck, CT on August 31, 1927, daughter of the late Bronislaw and Mary (Kozick) Zmyewski.  She had lived in Florida for the past 40 years.  Florence retired from the footwear division of Uniroyal after many years of service.  She enjoyed traveling, and was an avid UCONN women’s basketball fan.

Florence is survived by her brother Edward Zmyewski of Trenton, SC, her sister, Sophie Zmyewski-Wooster and her spouse Betty Wooster of Naugatuck; her adopted children and caregivers, Sue and Tom Poyer; and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her daughter Kathy Ann Sterniak and her sister Anne Adamski

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday July 27, 2015 at 10a.m. at St. Hedwig Church, 32 Golden Hill Street, Naugatuck. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck.   Those attending the services are asked to please meet at the church at 9:45a.m., and dress in Florence’s favorite colors of yellow and lavender.   The Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck is assisting the family with arrangements.  To send an on-line condolence, please visit www.naugatuckvalleymemorial.com
