WATERBURY – Mr. Frank Szantyr, 85, of Waterbury, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at the VITAS Innovative Care Unit at Saint Mary’s Hospital.  He was the widower of Juliet (Thomas) Szantyr.

 

Mr. Szantyr was born in Waterbury on June 18, 1929, a son of the late Casimir and Mary (Zolkiewicz) Szantyr.  He was a lifelong resident of Waterbury and a retiree from Scovil Manufacturing.  He also worked at Eastern Color Company and was a bus driver for special needs children.  After retirement, he worked as a security guard at Gleason’s.

 

Mr. Szantyr was a cheerful, fun-loving family man and devoted Red Sox fan.  His generosity and thoughtfulness for others never went unnoticed.  During the holiday season, he would visit the local convalescent homes dressed up as Santa Claus bringing joy to the residents who lived there.  With his contagious smile and peaceful personality, he would give comfort to anyone in need.  He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and by those whose lives he touched.

 

He leaves his sons, Edmund Szantyr of North Carolina and Thomas Szantyr of Waterbury; daughters, Dawn Szantyr and her husband Timothy Redman of Sarasota, FL, Gale Szantyr Mucci and her husband Lawrence Mucci, Sr. of Waterbury, and Page Szantyr of North Carolina; sister, Theresa Gratton of Waterbury, nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his son, Frank Szantyr, Jr.; brothers, Robert, Stanley, Paul, Anthony, and Rev. John Szantyr; sisters, Mary Szantyr Yezierski, Sr. Patricia Szantyr, and Sandy Jo Russ.

 

His funeral will be held on Saturday, November 8 at 9a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck to St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 86 East Farm Street, Waterbury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10a.m.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, East Main Street, Waterbury.  Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 5-8p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.  To send an online condolence, please visit www.naugatuckvalleymemorial.com
