Naugatuck- John E. Cobbol, age 92, passed away peacefully on Monday August 8, 2016, surrounded by his family, at Waterbury Hospital. He is survived by his forever partner and loving wife of 61 years, Margaret L. (Franek) Cobbol.

Mr. Cobbol was born in Naugatuck, CT on August 12, 1923, son of John and Mary (Mitrik) Koball. John held his  family near and dear to his heart. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Cathy (Kate) Cobbol-Hansum and Michael Hansum, Nancy  and Martin Mattessich, Barbara and David Jones, Suzanne and Kevin Tordoff; his eleven grandchildren Stephanie, Kimberly, Ashley; Greta, Sarah, Thomas; Jillian, Rhian; Kaitlyn, Luke and Hannah; and several special nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his siblings, George Cobbol, Mary Kotuby and Molly Cobbol.

Above all, John was a loving Christian husband and father, who, in his quiet humble way, raised his family in faith. He adored his daughters and all his loving grandchildren. He is credited with a family that has grown and prospered in love, strength, humility and faith. Known as Pop-pop to his grandchildren, he shared with them his love for golf, sports (Yankees, UCONN), gardening, fishing, birds, building (bird houses and more) and traveling- especially on cruises. Anyone who has had the gift of knowing him will surely miss his famous chocolate chip cookies and homemade apple pies.

A lifelong resident, John began his career as draftsman designer at Scovill. He was employed by a few other organizations throughout his career, including a position at Northrup Grumman in California. He retired from IBS in Wallingford after many years of service.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. and on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
