Joseph E. Brody (84), A Man of Honor

On April 27, 2015, Joe Brody, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend went home to be with the Lord. He passed peacefully at home in Middlebury, CT surrounded by his devoted family.

Joe recently celebrated 60 years of marriage to the love of his life, Cora Lee (Winsor) Brody. Joe cherished his three daughters and devoted son-in-laws: Karen and Paul Yuschak of Elizabeth, NJ, Debra and Sean McLaughlin and Joan and David Bussiere both of Middlebury, CT. His grandchildren kept their adored grandfather young: Kate Yuschak Garcia, and her husband Pedro, Kyle McLaughlin, Kevin McLaughlin, Rebecca Yuschak, Christopher Bussiere, and Colleen McLaughlin. In the circle of life, the family will soon be welcoming Joe’s first great grandbaby, Kayleana Garcia.

Born on July 15, 1930 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, Joseph Eugene Brody was the youngest son of the late Charles and Mary (Masick) Brody. Joe will be greatly missed by his older brother Basil Brody of Nanticoke, PA. He is predeceased by his parents, his sisters: Helen Patskin, Anna Terninko, and his brothers: John Brody and Stephen Brody.

Joe and Lee raised their family in Naugatuck, CT. Joe was a consummate athlete, exceling in baseball, football, basketball, volleyball, and golf. He played for Naugatuck High School, the United States Air Force, Risdon Manufacturing, and numerous recreational teams. Joe was a leader both on and off the field. He served in the Intelligence Unit of the Air Force where he met his wife. He spent most of his professional career as a Plant Manager for Risdon. For the last 30 years he relished working with his devoted wife, Lee, buying and selling antiques, where they enjoyed many dear friendships.

Whether on an athletic field, at the flea market, or at home with his family, Joe Brody was a selfless man of honor and integrity who let those around him know he loved and appreciated them. Joe lived life well and made us all better for knowing him. He will be greatly missed.

Family and friends are welcome to a Mass celebrating Joe’s life, which will be held on Friday, May 1st at 12:30 at St. John of the Cross Church, 1089 Whittemore Road, Middlebury, CT.
