Maria A. (Matos) Santos

Waterbury-Maria (Matos) Santos, age 94, widow of Antonio J. Santos, passed away peacefully on Saturday February 28, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Santos was born in Escariz, Vila Real, Portugal on February 2, 1921, daughter of the late Antonio Alves Matos and Palmira (Pitrez) Matos.  She moved from Portugal to the United States in 1968 and settled in Waterbury.  She enjoyed cooking, knitting, crocheting, and especially spending time with her family.  Mrs. Santos was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church.

Maria is survived by her 2 sons, Heitor Santos, Luciano Santos and his wife Salete, all of Waterbury; her 5 daughters, Orlanda Santos of Waterbury, Maria Helena Argenta and her husband Frank, Aurelia Varrone and her husband Daniel, all of Middlebury, Fernanda DiMichele and her husband Steven of Southbury, and Palmira Metcalf and her husband Chris of Middlebury; 9 grandchildren, Paul and David Santos, Taryn and Lauren Argenta, Stefanie and Sarah DiMichele, and Olivia, Morgan and Hannah Metcalf; and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her son, Americo Santos, and her granddaughter Jackie DiMichele.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday March 4, 2015 at 11:00a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Waterbury.  Those attending are asked to please meet at 10:45a.m. at the church.  Burial will be in Adoulfe Cemetery, Villa Real, Portugal.   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury, CT 06706.
