Naugatuck-Richard P. Barton, age 84, husband of Florence (Furs) Barton, passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital on Tuesday July 5, 2016.

 

He was born in Waterbury, CT on June 17, 1932, son of the late William Barton, Sr. and the late Mary (Lynch) Barton and he graduated from Sacred Heart High School. Upon his marriage, he moved to Naugatuck where he raised his family. Richard was licensed  journeyman and mason, and he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.  He was a communicant and lecturer at St. Mary’s Church in Union City and was well known for his great sense of humor.  He was also very involved in Alcoholics Anonymous and Calix and had many friends associated with these organizations.

 

 

Besides his wife Florence of 57 years, Richard is survived by his daughters, Karen Gill and her husband Richard of Naugatuck, Susan Barton of Waterbury, and Nancy Barton and her husband Mark Simonelli of Naugatuck; his brother Thomas Barton of Florida; his sisters Major Jo Anne Baton (retired) of El Paso, TX and Sister Teresa Barton, CND of Bronx, NY; his three grandchildren, Stephen and his wife Elewina, Alyce Gill and Richard Gill, Jr.; his two great grandchildren, Collin and James Barton; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his siblings, William Barton, Jr. and Francis Barton.

 

The family wishes to thank the staff and administrators at Cheshire House, especially the Summerset wing, for the kind and compassionate care given to Richard during his residency.

 

 

His funeral will be held on Saturday July 9, 2016 at 9:15a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck, to St. Mary’s Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10a.m.  Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 5-8p.m at the funeral home.
