Loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother

Naugatuck-Stella (Vavala) Walkuski, age 65, beloved wife of Chester Walkuski, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, July 28, 2016, at her home.

Stella was born in on May 6, 1951, in Dasa, Vibo Valentia, Provence of Calabria, Italy to the late Antonio and Rose (Bruni) Vavala. She graduated from J.M. Wright Technical High School in 1969 as a hairdresser.  She worked as a hairdresser until the birth of her first child.

Anyone who spent time in her home fondly remembers the amazing aromas of Italian cooking from the kitchen.  She loved to entertain family and friends.  Stella was old fashioned in that you could always rely on a hand written card or letter from whether it was your birthday or she was just keeping in touch.

She really cherished the family holidays, especially Christmas where there was always plenty of home cooking and love to go around.  Stella will fondly be remembered for her caring demeanor and, most of all, her strength.  Her spirt will live on in her family and the memories of all those lives she touched.

She is survived by her husband Chester Walkuski, with whom she celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on June 19th of this year.   She is also survived by her three sons: Alex Walkuski and his wife Cindy, and their children Callie and Max; Thomas Walkuski and his wife Lisa, and their daughter Gabriella; and Steven and his wife Alecia.  She is also survived by her brother Ralph Vavala, of Weston, CT, and several of her nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Anthony Walkuski; her brothers Benvenuto Vavala and Dominick Vavala; and her sisters Catherine Scaturchio and Teresa Campomolla.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at 10a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck, to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11a.m.  Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery.  Family and friends may call on Monday from 5-8p.m. at the funeral home.  To send an on-line condolence, please visit www.naugatuckvalleymemorial.com
