Naugatuck-James C. Danby, Sr., age 78, loving husband of Hazel (Buckley) Danby, passed away peacefully on Friday February 2, 2018 surrounded by his family.
Mr. Danby was born in Meriden, CT on January 4, 1940, son of the late Frank W. and Corrine (Crease) Danby. A longtime Naugatuck resident, he retired as Senior Engineer from Pratt & Whitney in North Haven after more than 40 years of service. Jim was a member of the Young Republicans of Naugatuck, Kollege Kapers, and a lifetime member of the Naugatuck Ancient Order of Hibernians. He volunteered for many years with Boy Scout Troop 102 in Naugatuck, and received the Pelican Medal and St. George Emblem for his service in scouting. He was in the United States Air Force and was a member of the American Legion Post 17. He was an active communicant of St. Mary’s Church, where he served on the parish council and finance board. Jim was a recipient of the St. Joseph Award from the Archdiocese of Hartford for his service to his church and community.
Besides his wife Hazel of 56 years, he is survived by his sons, James Charles Danby, Jr and his wife Anna of Bethany, and Brian Danby and his wife Sherry of Naugatuck; his daughter, Elizabeth Graves and her husband Ronald of St. John, FL; his eight grandchildren; his great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Fred and Frank Danby; and his sisters, Frances Jones and Marcia Galonski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday February 7, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 338 North Main Street, Naugatuck. Those attending are asked to please meet at the church at 9: 45 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck.
