MIDDLEBURY- Alfred M. Smith, 89, of Middlebury died October 7, 2019 at River Glen Health Care in Southbury. Al had a great sense of humor and quick wit. He was always busy working on projects around the house but his favorite moments were with his family playing cards. He served in the U.S. Army Aircorp as part of the Berlin Airlift. He was retired from the Middlebury Transfer Station and was a member of the Middlebury Congregational Church and Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 65 years, Muriel (Anderson) Smith. His children: a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald & Carol Smith of Minnesota; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Bill Scyoc of Colorado; Karen and Lonnie Sutterlin of North Carolina; Christine and Ed Nelson of Middlebury and Patricia and Jon Clark of Florida. He also leaves 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, James Smith and grandson, Jeremy Sutterlin.
ARRANGEMENTS-Funeral will leave Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck Friday at 9:15 a.m. for Middlebury Congregational Church for services at 10:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Middlebury Cemetery.
