Naugatuck-Joaquim Esteves, age 90, husband of the late Elisa (Pereira) Esteves, passed away on Monday August 5, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital VITAS Innovative Care Unit surrounded by his family.
Mr. Esteves was born in Portugal on March 1, 1929, son of the late Joao and Maria (Pereira) Esteves. He came to the United States in 1974 and settled in Naugatuck. Joaquim worked for many years at Naugatuck Glass before retiring. He was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church, and enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
Mr. Esteves leaves his sons, John Esteves of Naugatuck, Almiro Esteves of Milldale, and Antonio Esteves of Prospect; his daughters, Gloria Gomes of Portugal, Aurora Fernandes of Naugatuck, and Helena “Maria” Zupa of Oxford; his 13 grandchildren; his five great grandchildren; three brothers and one sister; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Fernando Esteves.
Visitation will be held Wednesday August 7, 2019 from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck.
