Raymond Magas Obituary

Woodbury-Raymond J. Magas, age 101, husband of the late Mary (Nemet) Magas, passed away peacefully at River Glen Health Care of Southbury on Monday July 1, 2019.

Mr. Magas was born in Scranton, PA on December 1, 1917, son of the late Michael and Helen (Yeliga) Magas. He was a longtime resident of Naugatuck and retired as supervisor from the footwear division of Uniroyal, Inc. after more than 40 years of service. Ray had also lived in Florida for 22 years and was a member of the Elks Lodge and Strings and Strutters while living there. After returning from Florida, he and his wife moved to Woodbury and was a member of the Elm City Banjo Society. He was a man of many talents and skills. His hobbies were endless but he best enjoyed golf, fishing, crafts and “managing” the Yankees from his living room chair. His passion for playing music since the age of eight was a constant throughout his entire life. His love for and dedication to his family was unmatched by anything he did in life.

He leaves his son, Richard Magas and his wife Regina of Southbury; his daughter Diane Rykoski and her husband David of Middlebury; daughter-in-law Rita Magas of Durham, NC; his sisters, Elaine Tedesco and Jane LeBlanc; brother-in-law John Alegi; sisters-in-law Eleanor Magas and Lois Nemet; five treasured grandchildren, Kenneth (Kristan) Magas; Kraig (Amy) Magas; Lisa (Mahmoud) El-Asmar; Sean (Michele) Dunn; Timothy (Jasmine) Rykoski; 11 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews and their children. In addition to his loving wife of 71 years, Ray was predeceased by his son Kenneth Magas; grandsons Keith Magas and Christopher Rykoski; brothers Edward, Elmer, Leo and Michael; sisters Elizabeth Swiderski and Helena Alegi.

The family would like to sincerely thank everyone at River Glen for the care and attention given to Ray.
