Elizabeth "Betty" Bebrin Obituary

Beloved Daughter, Wife and Mom

Waterbury-Elizabeth “Betty” (Karas) Bebrin was born in Waterbury on May 15, 1930.  She was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Karas and the loving wife of the late Edward J. Bebrin to whom she was married for 62 years.  She was a lifelong resident of Waterbury, and graduated from Wilby High School, Class of 1948.

Before her children were born, Betty worked at Scovill Manufacturing in the Purchasing Department for 8 years.  She was a homemaker for many years, but after raising her children, she returned to work at White Supply Company where she served as an Executive Secretary for 21 years.  Her excellent organizational skills and attention to detail made her an invaluable employee and late in her career, she was instrumental in converting her company to a new computer system.

Betty had many interests, and was an active member of several organizations including the Hobby Hens, AARP Mill Plain Chapter 1856, Healthy Hearts at Waterbury Hospital, the Walking Club at the Brass City Mall, and the Knights of Lithuania where she served as Recording Secretary and Raffle Chairman for many years and she was proud to attain her 4th Degree.  She loved her home and was always ready to update and re-decorate.  Her family and friends could always count on Betty to bring lovely and tasty desserts to any gathering, and she instilled a love of cooking and entertaining in all of her children.  She loved animals and cared for 8 cats and dogs with love and affection; her children all inherited her love and respect for animals.

Mrs. Bebrin is survived by her children, Marlene Warren and her husband John of Watertown, Edward J. Bebrin Jr. and his wife Darla of San Diego, California and Christopher Bebrin and his wife Christina of Charlotte, North Carolina.  She is also survived by her loving cousins Fran and Phil Stiklus.  Their friendship and support were instrumental in mom being able to live out her life in the home she adored, and we can’t thank them enough for their kindness and care over the past few years.

She was predeceased by her husband, parents, daughter Marilyn and her two sisters Rozella Holland and Katherine Delmonaco.

We would like to thank the ladies that helped us keep her at home – Wendy, Gale, and Sharon from Allume Cares, and Sabuette from Nova Health Care.  They treated her with dignity and affection, and she formed lasting bonds with each and every one of them.

Her funeral service will be held on Monday June 10, 2019 at 10 a.m. at the House of Prayer Church on 1263 Thomaston Avenue, Waterbury.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, East Main Street, Waterbury.  Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 4 to 7 pm. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck.  To send an online condolence, please visit www.naugatuckvalleymemorial.com.  Donations, in Betty’s memory, may be made to North Shore Animal League of America, 25 Davis Avenue, Port Washington, NY 11050.
