Cheshire-Helen (Smegelski) Objinski, widow of John Objinski, passed away Monday December 2, 2019 at Cheshire Regional Rehabilitation Center at the age of 102.
She was born in Naugatuck, CT on August 29, 1917, the youngest of nine siblings. She was the last surviving member of her family that included brothers, John, Thomas, Edward and Andrew; and sisters Rose, Stella, Mary and Frances. Her deceased parents were Hedwig and Stanley Smegelski.
Helen graduated from Naugatuck High School, married and raised five daughters. She was the only one of her siblings to get her driver’s license, a source of pride, accomplishment and independence. She was a great cook and personally sewed most of her own wardrobe. She was always perfectly dressed when out in public.
Helen did whatever needed to be done for her family in the formative years. In later years, she enjoyed watching television, especially grand events like inaugurations, royal weddings and funerals.
She is survived by four daughters, Diane, JoAnn (Lexington), Helen, and Barbara, with whom she made her home for the past 16 years. Helen was predeceased by her daughter Linda who passed away in January. She also leaves three grandchildren, Erin, Judd and Dylan, and three great grandchildren, Megan, Cate, and Colten. There are also many surviving nieces and nephews.
