Middlebury-Alfred J. Mormile, age 83, beloved husband of the late Gloria Jean (Nigri) Mormile, passed away on Saturday October 2, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital.
Born in Deby, CT on April 10, 1938, he was the son of the late Joseph J. and Catherine (Magnamo) Mormile. Al resided in Middlebury with his family since 1960. He owned and operated the Corner Barber Shop in Naugatuck for many years. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army.
Al loved the beach and the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, sailor, and golfer. He enjoyed target and skeet shooting. He played basketball and baseball during his youth and enjoyed watching his grandson John Paul, "aka the shooter," play basketball more recently. Al enjoyed vacationing with his family in Narragansett and Florida for many years. He was also an excellent mechanic who could fix anything.
Al leaves his three daughters and their spouses, Maria Mormile-Mehler and Brad Mehler of West Hartford, Angela Chagnon and Don Chagnon of Meriden, and Tracie and George Paiva of Milford, one grandson, John Paul Paiva; his brothers Ronald F. Mormile and his wife Joan, and Michael R. Mormile of Naugatuck.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday October 8, 2021(on Alfred & Gloria’s Wedding Anniversary) at 10 a.m. at St. John of the Cross Church, 1263 West Street, Middlebury. Burial with military honors will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery Watertown. Calling hours will be held on Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck.
