Washburn, Maine-Dale E. Whitten, age 87, passed away Saturday morning May 9, 2020 at his home in Washburn.
He was born in Washburn on September 26, 1932, the son of Carl and Euleila (Gould) Whitten. He graduated from Washburn High School in 1951, and then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp, was stationed in Japan, and was discharged in 1954. He married Adina Carman on July 8, 1952. Dale worked as a mechanical engineer in various manufacturing companies in Connecticut until his retirement to Washburn, where he married Marilyn McKay and settled in Washburn. He was active in the American Legion in Washburn, putting flags on veteran’s graves every year and helping the boy scouts with flag burning. He was a model airplane enthusiast, building and flying remote control planes. Dale was very active in the Aroostook County RC Flyers Club for many years.
He had four children, Dalean E. Ihle, and her husband Robert of Naugatuck, CT. Dale Jr. died as an infant, Donald E. Whitten of Beaverton, OR, and Daniel E. Whitten and his wife Misty of Plattsburg, NY. He is also survived by his wife Marilyn Mckay Whitten of Washburn, four grandchildren, Chandra Elizabeth of AZ. Arianna Noel Whitten, John D. Croce of Brighton, MA. and Nathaniel Whitten and his wife Emily of Portland, ME. Step children; Kathy(McKay) Thompson and her husband Michael of Washburn, Kent McKay and his wife Carol of Presque Isle, step grandchildren; Nicholas Thompson and his wife Jordana, Erika (McKay) Bernard and her husband Luke, and Colin McKay, step great grandchildren Emerson Thompson and Natalie Bernard, close neighbors and friends Keith and Sue Brown, and Kermit and Susan Fuller. Dale was predeceased by his first wife Adina (Carman) Whitten, sisters; Thetis Churchill, Freda DeWitte, Audrey Crosby and Louisa Smith, brothers; Earl, Carl, Sheldon, and Dana Whitten.
A private graveside service with military honors will be held at Grove Cemetery in Naugatuck.
