Georgiana Genovese Obituary

NAUGATUCK- Georgiana Mezzo Genovese, 71, of Naugatuck, died Monday, January 3rd, 2022 at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was the wife of Thomas A. Genovese.

Georgiana was born in Waterbury, Ct. May 25th, 1950, daughter of the late George J. and Hedwig Karwacki Mezzo. She was a graduate of Naugatuck High School. She was self employed as an artist, with many of her paintings on display in galleries in Connecticut, New York, California, England and the Cayman Islands. Gigi’s love for painting made her a world- renowned artist. Her favorite paintings were mostly lighthouses and landscapes but she also did many other styles of artwork. She loved working with acrylic paints but didn’t shy away from watercolor, chalk and oil paintings.

She was a longtime member of the Shennecossett Yacht Club in Groton. Gigi loved spending time on her boat in Groton during the summers. She loved being on the water whether it was a nice boat ride to Block Island or doing a little fishing with husband of 51 years.

She fell in love with the Cayman Islands many years ago while on a cruise, since then traveled there often with her husband and friends. Gigi was a top notch cook and enjoyed making all kinds of dishes for her friends and family. She took pride in making people smile with her cooking.

Gigi loved to travel and took many trips with her daughter and husband. She absolutely adored her boys. One of her hobbies was to crochet. She always made baby blankets and stuffed animals and loved gifting these items to her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband she leaves her daughter and son in law Allyson Genovese-Naughton and Patrick Naughton of Southington; sons Jamie Genovese and Chad Genovese, both of Naugatuck; brother John Mezzo of Naugatuck; sister Carolyn Kackowski of Groton; and five grandchildren.
