Americo O. Tavares Obituary
PROSPECT - Americo O. Tavares, 71, of Prospect, beloved husband of Adelia Pinho Tavares, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 4th, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Americo was born February 20th, 1954 in Sao Joao de Ver, Santa Maria da Feira, Portugal, son of the late Joao Tavares and Angelina De Oliveira. He worked for Olin Strip Waterbury Brass as a machine operator and shift leader before his retirement. He was an active parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church.
Americo found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was the peacefulness of fishing, hunting with friends, the satisfaction of tending to his garden and fruit trees, or the camaraderie of a friendly card game. His heart always raced a little faster during Benfica Soccer Club’s matches, as he passionately cheered them on. But what truly filled his soul was the time he spent with his family. Every moment with them, from laughter around the dinner table to adventures shared, was a treasure to him—his greatest joy, his greatest love.
In addition to his wife of 47 years, Americo leaves his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Alex Oliveira of Middlebury; son and daughter-in-law Mark and Esmeralda Tavares of Wolcott; daughter and son-in-law and Stephanie and Dwight Boatman of Southbury; grandsons Noah and Luke Oliveira; siblings Manuel, Antonio, Maria Teresa, Maria Gloria Tavares, all of Portugal; In-laws Guilherme and Amelia Pinho, Joaquim and Emilia Silva, Joao and Rosa Sequeira, Carma Janeiro, Jose Carlos and Christina Pinho, Julia and Joaquim Ferreira, and Rufino Pinho; as well as a large beautiful family of in-laws aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Virgilio Tavares.
