Obituary

Naugatuck-Antonio L. Soares, age 59, beloved husband of Maria Margarida Soares, passed away on Sunday January 16, 2022 at St. Mary’s  Hospital VITAS Innovative Care Unit.

Born in Portugal on February 13, 1962, he was the son of the late Jose da Costa and Margarida R. De Jesus Soares.  He came to this country and Waterbury in 1981 and eventually settled in Naugatuck with his family.  Antonio owned his own masonry business and was a hard -working man dedicated to his family and friends.  He enjoyed soccer, playing pool, and was a member of the Waterbury Portuguese Sports Club.

Besides his loving wife Maria, Antonio leaves his daughters, Sandra Fernandes and her husband Nelson, and Jennifer Soares, all of Naugatuck; his beloved grandaughter Aubrey Fernandes; his four brothers, Joaquim (Lola) Soares, Carlos Soares, Jose Soares (Maria), and Pompeu Soares (Margarida); his four sisters, Clara Sousa (Artur), Amelia Barros (Jose), Elsa Cabral (Silverio), and Ana Maria Carvalho (Antonio); and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

His funeral will be held on Friday January 21, 2022 at 10 a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck, to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m.  Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery.  Family and friends may call on Friday from 9-10 a.m. at the funeral home.  To send an on-line condolence, please visit www.naugatuckvalleymemorial.com
