WALLINGFORD- Augustine (Gus) W. Krisavage, age 67, a longtime resident of Waterbury , passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025 at Masonicare Health Center. He was born in Waterbury on June 13, 1957, the son of Augustus P. and Helen P. (Jacovich) Krisavage.
Gus was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School and received a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Connecticut. Until his retirement in June 2021 he worked for the Waterbury Public School system at John F. Kennedy High School as a building substitute teacher, assistant football coach, assistant basketball coach and tennis coach. Coach K was well known throughout the Naugatuck Valley and was immensely proud of the many athletes who he had the pleasure to coach and mentor. His was honored to have his love for coaching recognized when he was named Assistant Basketball Coach of the year. He was often the first person to arrive at school and the last to leave a game he coached. He could be counted upon to fill any role, perform any task, or finish any job that needed to be done.
Gus was a self-taught photographer, known for his scenic depictions of Cape Cod and the fall kayak races on the Housatonic River. He served as the official photographer for many family gatherings. Those photographs grace the walls of the homes of family members and friends.
He is survived by his brother Paul (Dawn) Krisavage of Prospect and sister Veronica (Roni) Krisavage of Milford; his nephews Paul Krisavage of Rocky Hill, Adam (Nicole) Krisavage of Prospect, and his niece Carly (Michael) Walsh of Niantic, as well as his great-nieces Emma and Meghan Krisavage of Prospect. Gus especially cherished the college friends he often called his “clan”, most notably Bill Leary and Terri Quattro-Cook.
The Krisavage family would like to sincerely thank the staffs of The Lutheran Home in Southbury and the Masonicare Heath Center for their kindness and compassionate care of Gus.
His funeral will be held on Saturday March 1, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck, to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main St. Waterbury, CT 06702 for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will take place at the family’s convenience. Visitation will be on Saturday from 8-9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
