Eleanor C. Dominick, a loving mother, aunt and friend, passed away on December 22, 2020. She departed this world peacefully, and quietly, with her son Tom by her side, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, her place of residence since 2018. She had reached her 94th year, an achievement that she was proud to have accomplished, earlier this Fall.
A resident of Naugatuck since the early 1960s and of Waterbury since the 1940s, Eleanor was born in West Pittston PA, on October 3, 1926, son of the late John J. and Margaret Blasavage. She was one of eight children. She was predeceased by her husband Edward Dominick, brothers John Blasavage and Paul Blasavage, and sister Irene Kailukaitis.
Eleanor will be remembered for her forthright nature, no-nonsense approach to getting things done, and the off-the-cuff witticisms she often traded with family at holiday gatherings and with friends at Naugatuck Elks Club or American Legion bingo. Her new-found group of resident and staff friends and acquaintances in North Carolina grew to appreciate her sense of humor and always dignified manner almost immediately.
Apart from her family, she was most proud of her work life and would not hesitate to tell you about the nine jobs that she held during her employment career. Most recently she retired from aposition as a certified nurse's aide at Cedar Lane Rehabilitation Center in Waterbury, a position she began when she was already 58 years old.
In addition to her son Tom and his wife Sarah West of Chapel Hill, she leaves brothers, Eugene Blasavage and his wife Pamela, Edward Blasavage and his wife Ursula, George Blasavage, and sister, Margaret Dominick. Additionally, she leaves behind many nephews, nieces, and their families.
At this time, no memorial gatherings will be held, due to the COVID pandemic. A suitable time and place will be found in the future for family and friends to celebrate Eleanor’s life. She will join her husband and other family members at Mount Olivet Cemetery, in Watertown, after her final trip back to CT.
Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Eleanor to the Naugatuck Valley Soup Kitchen (https://www.gofundme.com/f/2783nipyxc), to aid in support of all Naugatuck (and surrounding) residents in need.
