Wolcott-Gertrude “Trudy" (Wick) Vensel, widow of Donald Vensel, passed away on Friday May 19, 2023 at Mid-State Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Jersey City, NJ on September 9, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Anna (Anderson) Wick. Trudy was a graduate of Litchfield High School and the University of Connecticut with a B.S. degree in Nursing. She met Don, the love of her life, while at UConn. They were married for 65 years. She was a longtime Waterbury resident and retired from the City of Waterbury Public Health Department after 25 years of service. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, painting, and was an avid fan of the UCONN basketball teams. She was a longtime and active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. The most important thing to Trudy was spending time with her family, and she never missed an activity her children or grandchildren were involved in. She was loved by all and will be dearly missed.
Trudy is survived by her family; sons Donald “Chip” and his wife Sue, Carl and his wife Vicky; daughters Anne Capozzi and Linda Ligi; her ten grandchildren, Sara, Matthew, Ashley, Justin, Christina, Michael, Christian, Zachary, Christopher and Ryan; her four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Christine Vensel; son in law Chuck Capozzi, and her brother Harry Wick, Jr.
Her funeral will be held on Friday May 26, 2023 at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 503 Chase Parkway in Waterbury. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck.
