Beacon Falls-Janet May (Gillingham) Norton, wife of the late Arthur Norton, Sr.  passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday December 14, 2025 surrounded by her family.  She was 91 years old.

She was born in Milford, CT on December 1, 1934, daughter of the late Harold and Florence Gillingham.  She was a graduate of Milford High School class of 1952 and was a longtime resident of Beacon Falls. She loved spending time at the Beacon Falls Senior Center playing bingo, Wii Bowling, and crocheting while being with her friends.  In her early years Janet loved horses and did trick riding and barrel racing with her sister Marilyn.  She loved cooking for her family on the holidays and spending quality time with her grandchildren.  She enjoyed working in her yard, gardening, and tending to her many flower beds.

Janet was an EMT for Beacon Hose #1 Ambulance for many years.  Even when she couldn’t assist anymore she was still very involved as a life member in the Fire Department.  She had worked at Valley Cable in Seymour for many years.  She loved to help anyone in need and she especially missed her friend Rita, who was like a sister to her,  when she moved to Florida.

Janet’s family extends their sincere gratitude to all of the caregivers and nurses from hospice for the exceptional care given to our mother, and especially for her caregiver Olga for the last two years until our mom went to heaven.

She leaves her family to honor her memory, daughter Bonnie Maciejko and her husband Robert, sons Arthur Norton, Jr. and his wife Robin, and James Norton and his wife Jackie Wirsing; her seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  Janet was predeceased by her son Michael Norton and sister Marilyn Gambardella.

Visitation will be held on Friday December 19, 2025 from 5-7 p.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitgzerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck.  A Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will be private.  To send an online condolence or share a memory, please visit www.naugatuckvalleymemorial.com
