MIDDLEBURY - Joan Adele (Moritis) King, 77, of Middlebury, passed away Sunday, December 29th at Beacon Brook Health Center in Naugatuck. She is survived by her husband Frederick S. King. In addition to her husband, she leaves two sons,Frederick J. and wife Katherine King of Alexandria, VA, and Jared King of Salisbury, NH. She also leaves behind her brother Alan and his wife Kathie Moritis of Bellevue, WA, her grandchildren, Adam, A.J. and Noah, her nieces, Becca, Sarah and Julia as well as many cousins, friends, and former students. Joan was pre- deceased by her sister, Karen M. Lawlor, wife of Edward Lawlor, as well as her parents Alfred and Julia (Sniekus) Moritis.
Joan was born on October 18, 1942 in Waterbury, CT.. She was a proud BC Eagle, having received her Bachelors Degree from Boston College. Joan went on to teach English for over 35 years, first at Kennedy High School then Crosby High School, until her retirement in 1999. Joan was an avid reader and loved to cook and spend time with her friends and family. She was very active in local politics, a member of the Middlebury Democratic Town Committee, and served as longtime Chairman of the Middlebury Library Board.
ARRANGEMENTS- Visitation will be at Naugatuck Valley Memorial Fitzgeral-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck on Saturday January 4th from 8:00 to 9:00 am.
