Joann (Godfrey) Gunther Obituary
Joann (Godfrey) Gunther, beloved daughter of William and Alice Godfrey, sister of Corriene O'Connell, Bonnie Beckham and Victoria Weddington, has gone home to be with the Lord. She is also survived by a multitude of nieces, nephews, great- and grand-nieces and nephews, and countless friends. Joann was preceded in her final journey by her beloved husband Harold Carter Gunther, Jr., aka Butch, and her sister Nancy Edwards.
Born in Norwalk, CT on May 15, 1940, Joann grew up and lived her life happily in Connecticut with her beloved husband and close to her immediate family. She was a lover of nature and all living things, especially owls. She was a long-time employee of Cooper Surgical and had several successful business ventures in the restaurant sector. Joann's was a smile that will never leave us; she was a ray of sunshine to all who knew her. She will be missed and never forgotten. The Lord has gained a very special Angel.
Anybody who knew Jo knows that she made friends everywhere she went. Special thanks to the staff at Havencare at Filosa in Danbury, CT for their wonderful warmth and empathy while caring for their friend Joann during her final years.
A springtime Celebration of Life for Joann and Butch will be held at the Mather Cemetery, located at the Stephen Mather Homestead in Darien, CT at 10 AM on May 15, 2026. The family will post a public notice of the celebration prior to the event.
