Joaquina (Moura) Lucas

Waterbury-Joaquina (Moura) Lucas, age 94, widow of Antonio J. Lucas, passed away on Sunday February 28, 2021 at Cheshire House.

Mrs. Lucas was born in Portugal on September 11, 1926, daughter of the late Antonio and Maria C. (Fernandes) Moura.  She was a longtime resident of Naugatuck.  She had worked for many years at Uniroyal and eventually retired from Naugatuck Glass.  Joaquina enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting, and spending time with her family.  A devout Catholic, she was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church.

Joaquina is survived by her children, Fernando Lucas and his wife Idalina of Prospect, Maria Gloria Moura (Joao) of Naugatuck, Maria Rosa Martins (Jose) of Naugatuck, Maria Connie Seguro (Domingos) and Maria Jackie Martins (Francisco), all of Ludlow, MA, Maria Theresa Portela (Alberto) of Bridgeport, and Maria Ines Machado (Alipio) of Waterbury; 21 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Liborio Lucas, her daughter Maria Lucia, and her brothers, Liborio Moura and Abel Mora.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday March 5, 2021 at 12:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury.  Those attending are asked to please meet at the church at 12:15 p.m., and are required to wear facial masks and follow social distancing guidelines.  Burial will be in Gralhos, Montalegre, Portugal.  There are no calling hours.  The Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck, is in care of her arrangements.
