Naugatuck-John Stephen Lengyel, age 77, husband of the late Dolly F. (Shaker) Lengyel, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday May 16, 2024 surrounded by family.

 

Born in Waterbury, CT on April 28, 1947, he was the son of the late John G. and Rose (Kosko) Lengyel.  John was a lifelong Naugatuck resident and retired from Shakers Lincoln Mercury in Waterbury. After retirement, John enjoyed working with his “kids”as crossing guard at City Hill Middle School.  He loved fly fishing and in fact built his own rods. He also had a part in the movie Jack Knife

 

John was a proud veteran of the United States Airforce and served in Vietnam.  He was a member of VFW Post 1946 where he was Past Commander, and went on many trips to Washington D.C. to visit the War Memorials

 

 

 John leaves his family to honor his memory, his son John “Jay” Lengyel, daughters Stephanie Lengyel and  Kim Lengyel Carrion and her husband Marc Carrion, all of Naugatuck;  his eight grandchildren Christopher, Michael, Matthew, Briana, Kayla, Mickayla and her husband Sawyer, Thomas and Stephen; his three great grandchildren Brooklyn, Luna, Mason; his brother Donald Lengyel and his wife Ann; his sister Rosemary Boisvert and her husband Thomas; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Visitation will be held on Tuesday May 21, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck. Members of the Naugatuck Veterans Council will meet on Tuesday at 6 p.m.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.  Burial with military honors will follow in St. James Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mission 22 at mission22.com or veteranswhocare.org.  To send an on-line condolence or share a memory, please visit www.naugatuckvalleymemorial.com
