Josephine F. Mychaskiw Obituary

Naugatuck-Josephine F. (Kardasz) Mychaskiw, widow of Edward W. Mychaskiw, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024 at St. Mary’s Hospital. 

She was born on July 28, 1933 in Montreal, Canada to Joseph and Mary Kardasz.  She married her childhood sweetheart, Edward, in Montreal and moved to Naugatuck in 1955 where she raised her family. She became an American citizen and they were married for 63 years.

She spoke 6 languages and was a polish translator. She enjoyed summer vacations in Montreal. She also volunteered with local groups providing handmade quilts and blankets to cancer centers, hospitals and the Connecticut Junior Republic. She was known for her baking, winning many awards and she was especially known for her pumpkin cheese pie, wedding cakes, grandma’s chocolate chip cookies and pierogies. Also known for her unlimited French toast breakfast for family and friends! She was an avid reader and she won many awards in knitting, smocking and other needlework crafts. She loved her visits with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and celebrated her 90th birthday with the entire family and friends this past summer. 

Josephine leaves to cherish her memory, son Ed (Kathy) of Simpsonville, SC, daughter Donna of Middlebury, CT, grandson Jeffrey Mychaskiw (Erica) of Humble, TX, granddaughter Julie Mychaskiw Newman (Casey) of Greenville, SC, great grandchildren Isla & Evett Mychaskiw of Humble, TX , and Charlotte Newman of Greenville, SC. Josephine also leaves a brother John Kardasz of Montreal. She is predeceased by her grandson John Mychaskiw.

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday February 8, 2024 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Oratory, 50 Charles Street, Waterbury.  Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Platt Road, Watertown.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Oratory, Waterbury, CT or Divine Mercy Shrine, P.O. Box 716, Stockbridge, MA 01262.
