Justine A. Mis

St. Thomas-Justine A. Mis, age 73, passed away at Schneider Regional Hospital in St. Thomas USVI on Saturday May 30, 2026.

She lived a full and adventurous life moving to St. Thomas on a whim after living in cold and windy Chicago for many years. She met the love of her life John Hayne in St. Thomas and after many years she finally gave in and agreed to marry him. Together they sailed the Caribbean and lived a life most of us dream about. John unfortunately passed away a little over 8 years ago leaving a big hole in her heart.

She was predeceased by her parents Walter and Jane Mis and by her husband John Hayne. She is survived by her brothers Frederick Mis and his wife Nancy Z. Mis of Fairfield, and William P.  Mis and his wife Susan of Beacon Falls.  She is also survived by 4 nephews; Benjamin A. Mis of Costa Mesa, CA, Jason H. Mis of Milford, Stephen Mis of Naugatuck, John M. Mis of Beacon Falls; and a niece Emily K. Mis-Marsillio of Stratford. She also has 4 grandnieces and 3 grandnephews.

She had an entrepreneurial spirit and was always trying out some new business venture on the "Rock" and she called it. Some did well and some, well, oh well. She was always willing to take a chance. She was an artist and was always channeling her creative spirit. She graduated from Naugatuck High School and received her BFA from SUNY at New Paltz. May she find peace and happiness reunited with her love John Haney.

She will miss her adventures with her good friend Linda in Mississippi. She took great pride in flying with Linda to Las Vegas to celebrate Linda's 80th birthday.
