Marianna Mogielnicka, a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother died on Saturday, Dec 31, 2022, at Vitas Hospice in St. Marys Hospital at the age of 93.
She was born on March 8, 1929, in Brzostowo, a small village in northeast Poland. During World War II, the Soviets forced Marianna, along with her parents and her younger brother, to a gulag deep in the Russian territory. Her brother and her father died from diseases in the labor camp. Marianna and her mother returned to war-ravaged Poland after five years. At the age of 20 she married Walenty, a farmer from her village. They had four children: Franciszek, Jozef, Krystyna and Anna.
Marianna moved to the U.S. in 1987 to help Anna and Anna’s husband Aleksander raise their two children. For more than 30 years she lived with them in Naugatuck where she enjoyed gardening, raising chickens, cooking for her family and entertaining visitors, including many of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Marianna will be remembered for her incredible resilience, deep devotion to her family and her delicious Polish cooking.
She is survived by her two daughters, 10 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, Jan. 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Naugatuck Valley Memorial Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home 240 North Main Street Naugatuck Connecticut. Funeral service will be on Thursday, Jan. 5 at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Naugatuck. Burial to follow St. James Cemetery
