Born in Antigo de Sarraquinhos, Montalegre, Portugal on May 15, 1936, he was son of the late Augusto Ribeiro and Ana Gomes da Silva.

Mario is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Isaura Gomes Ribeiro, his son, Manuel Ribeiro and his wife Gina, his daughters, Maria Ribeiro Garcia and her husband Firmino, Ana Salgado and her husband Carlos, and Connie Ribeiro Carey and her husband Ralph; his eight loving grandchildren, Joshua Salgado, Mikayla Garcia, Ethan Garcia, Dylan Salgado, Nicholas Ribeiro, Alivia Garcia, Rohan Carey, and Eva Carey, as well as many nieces and nephews.  He leaves behind two sisters in law, Teresa Gomes Moreno and Maria Agostinha Gomes.

Mario was predeceased by his seven brothers and sisters; Maria Silva, Domingos Ribeiro, Antonio Ribeiro, Teresa Martins, Clementina Ribeiro, Joaquina Teixeira, and Jaime Ribeiro; and his dear brothers in law, Jose Gomes and Manuel Gomes.

He and his wife immigrated to the United States in 1973 from Portugal and settled in Naugatuck.  He was a humble and simple man who worked hard to provide for his family who were his pride and joy.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren and spent  many years helping to raise them.  He had a great sense of humor, enjoyed playing his harmonica, and tending to his garden.  He enjoyed his retirement years spending his summers in Portugal.  He always had a special place in his heart for the town he was born and raised in, Antigo.  He was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church for over 40 years.

His funeral will be held on Thursday August 13, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck, to  Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m.  Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck.  Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 6-8 pm. at the funeral home.  To send an on-line condolence, please visit www.naugatuckvalleymemorial.com
