Naugatuck-Sophie (Krajewski) Morton went home to be with the Lord on December 19, 2024 at the age of 73. She was born on July 16, 1951 in Waterbury, CT. Sophie was the daughter of Leo and Blazena (Vodickova) Krajewski. She was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church.
Sophie graduated valedictorian from St. Hedwig School in 1965, and from Sacred Heart High School in 1969. She attended Southern Connecticut State College and Paier School of Art.
In 1971, she began serving the people of Naugatuck, a commitment that spanned 40 years. She served as Assistant Registrar and Registrar of Voters and Town Clerk, a position she held for 28 years.
Sophie was a devoted member of the Naugatuck community serving on countless boards and committees. She designed the Naugatuck logo and produced the Naugatuck Financial Report in calendar form. She volunteered her time to do graphics for athletic, community, and charitable events.
Sophie was an avid golfer. She enjoyed her card league. She was a “party girl” and frequently hosted get-togethers in her home.
Sophie’s faith was an integral part of who she was. She generously gave when she saw a need. She cared for her mother until her own cancer diagnosis. She fought the cancer battle courageously for four years, living life to the full.
Sophie is survived by her brother John (Laura) Krajewski, by her sister Marie (Thomas) Booker, and by her niece Lyra (Michael) Griffiths. She is also survived by an aunt, Jana Vodickova, and by several cousins.
Special thanks is given to Cynthia Coco, her life -long friend and kindred spirit, to her many friends who provided meals, transportation, to cancer treatments, and encouragement, especially the Childs family, Kathy Palmieri, Tania Stenberg, and to her former pastor and friend Sebastian Kos. Special thanks is also given to the nurses and staff of Hartford Healthcare Oncology and Home Hospice Care, and to Wanda Grandy, caregiver and friend.
