Prospect – Stanley ‘Stash’ Rek, 78, of Prospect, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 9th, 2022 at Waterbury Gardens in Waterbury. He was preceded in death by his wife Beverly (Krasinsky) Rek.
He was born in Waterbury on June 1st, 1944, son of the late James and Helen (Ruszczyk) Rek. A lifelong resident of Prospect, Stanley attended St.Hedwig’s School and Wilby High School and proudly served in the United States Navy.
Stanley was well known in Naugatuck having owned/worked at several establishments including Charlie Murphy’s and the Victoria Inn. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and a past member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed reading, watching golf and spending time with family and friends.
Stanley is survived by a son, Stanley C. “Chuck” Rek Jr. of Prospect; daughter, Veronica Rek and Harvey Hall of Waterbury; daughter, Trisha Oliver and her husband Ron of Manchester, grandchildren Daniel Rek, Chaz Hall and his wife Junines, Erika Hall and Blake Oliver; two brothers Eugene Rek and his wife Joan and Edward Rek and his wife Lori all of Prospect, sister-in-law Patricia DelBuono of Florida and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family thanks the nursing/aide staff at Waterbury Gardens for his care, with special thanks to Loretta and Annie who showed our Dad extra love and kindness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday June 15, 2022 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect. Those attending are asked to please meet at the church at 9:45 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck.
