Naugatuck-Wilfredo Nieves, beloved husband of Crecencia (Quiles) Nieves for 45 years, passed away on Tuesday May 19, 2026 at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was 72 years old.
Born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico on November 7, 1953, he was the son of the late Monserrate and Gertrudiz (Deida) Nieves. He retired from the Bridgeport Police Department after 28 years of loyal service. Fondly known as “Freddie”, his smile, sense of humor and infectious laugh caused him to be loved by many. He was a member of the Bridgeport Police Honor Guard, the Hispanic Society of Bridgeport as well as a member of House of Prayer Church where he served faithfully for years.
His family was the most important thing to him next to his relationship with God. In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves his daughters Diana (Javier) Melendez of Russell, MA, Adriana (Jonathan) Cote of Torrington, and Jocelyn (Miguel) LaViera of Naugatuck; his grandchildren Josiah, Noah, Isabella, Eliana, and Charlotte, who brought him endless joy. He also leaves behind many other relatives and dear friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 27, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at House of Prayer Church, 1245 Thomaston Avenue, Waterbury. A service will begin at noon and burial will follow in Grove Cemetery, Naugatuck. The Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck, is assisting the family with arrangements.
