William D. Barnum Obituary

Melbourne, FL - William D. Barnum, age 83, beloved husband of the late Jane (Moore) Barnum, passed away on Sunday January 12, 2025.

 

Born in Bridgeport, CT on May 26, 1941, he was the son of the late Norman E. and Mary Jane (Monahan) Barnum.  Bill was raised in Bridgeport and was a longtime resident of Beacon Falls before moving to Florida in 2016.  He attended St. Ann Grammar School and Bassick High School, graduating in 1959.  Later that year, he joined the U.S. Air Force where he served both home and abroad in Europe before being honorably discharged in August 1965.


Bill was employed by several industries in the local area before accepting a position at Jones Group in 1984.  There he met his wife Jane and enjoyed a 27-year career as a data processing manager before retiring in 2011.  He was a longtime member of St. Vincent Ferrer Church in Naugatuck.  He loved animals and provided several rescue dogs with a wonderful home.


Bill we be lovingly remembered by his son William D. Barnum, Jr. of Florida; his sister Kathleen and brother-in-law Guy Favreau of Sandy Hook; sisters-in-law Kathy Barnum of Trumbull and Suzanne Barnum of Fairfield; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was predeceased by his brothers Norman, Dennis, and Robert and his sister-in-law Lillian.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday March 8, 2025 at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Road, Naugatuck.  Burial with military honors will follow in St. James Cemetery.  To send an on-line condolence or share a memory, please visit www.naugatuckvalleymemorial.com.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the Animal Rescue Foundation, 366 Main Street, Terryville, CT 06786.
