Bernice T. (Povalkins) Slawski

WATERBURY – Bernice T. (Povalkins) Slawski, 74, of Waterbury, unexpectedly passed away at Waterbury Hospital on Wednesday, October 1, 2014.  She was the wife of Kenneth Slawski.

Mrs. Slawski was born in Ansonia, CT on December 30, 1939, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Mildred Povalkins.  She retired from Center Bank in Waterbury after several years of service and also worked as a nurse’s aide and director of recreation at the Watermark of Southbury.  She enjoyed making arts and crafts for the Holy Cross High School Holiday Bazaar, she was especially known for her ponchos, baby blankets, and scarfs.  She was a communicant of St. Mary Church.

Besides her husband of 45 years, she leaves her son, Donald Jennings of Waterbury; daughter, Debra Clemons of Naugatuck; brother, Robert Povalkins of North Carolina; granddaughter, Kayla Clemons; great-granddaughter, Jasmine Fernandez.  She was predeceased by her son, Clinton Jennings and a granddaughter, Jessica Clemons.

Her funeral service will be held on Friday, October 3 at 11a.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck.  Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck.  Calling hours will be held on Friday morning from 10a.m. until the time of service.  To send an online condolence, please visit www.naugatuckvalleymemorial.com
