Frederick O.  Christiansen Jr., of Naugatuck, passed away, on January 12, 2016, at the age of 91.  He was the husband of the late Angelina (Nosenzo) Christiansen.

Mr. Christiansen was born in Stamford,Conn., on May 13, 1924, the son of the late Frederick O. and Alice (Taylor) Christiansen Sr.

He was a longtime resident of Danbury and worked for the Danbury Public Works Department as a Heavy Equipment Operator until his retirement in 1983.  Frederick and his wife moved to Florida and then to Pennsylvania before settling back in Connecticut.  He loved playing poker and was part of the Poker Group of the Naugatuck Senior Center, and spent almost every afternoon playing poker with his friends there.  He also was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and UConn women’s Basketball.

Frederick enlisted in the army on the day Pearl Harbor was attacked.  He was in the Third Armored Division and served in the European, African and Middle Eastern Campaigns.  He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

He is survived by his children, Sharon Kaufmann of Waterbury, Linda Christiansen of Brookfield, Rickey Christiansen of West Haven and his daughter and son-in-law Debra and Joseph Childs of Naugatuck, with whom he had made his home for the past four years; he is also survived by five grandchildren.

Frederick is predeceased by his son, Jeffrey Christiansen.

At Mr. Christiansen’s request, there are no calling hours.  A funeral Mass will be held at the convenience of the family, and he will be buried with his wife and son in Danbury. Naugatuck Valley Memorial Funeral Home has been entrusted with all arrangements.
