Melissa Ann Murray, 40 of Naugatuck, CT died peacefully in her sleep at her home on Tuesday, January 10, 2017.
Melissa was born on May 17, 1976 in Waterbury, CT. She graduated from Naugatuck High School in 1994, was a well-loved member of the community, and served as an assistant coach for the Naugy Nitro girls’ youth soccer team.Melissa was hard-working and owned her own business cleaning homes, where she made a number of lifelong friends. In fact, becoming a lifelong friend of Melissa’s was a very easy thing to do. Melissa was simply unforgettable. Melissa was a very selfless individual. She always put others’ needs well ahead of her own. She believed strongly in the equality of all humans and was a champion of the less fortunate. She has instilled these same qualities in her daughter Kassandra who has already carried on this legacy.In addition to loving all, the plants and flowers she took pride in were a testament of her love of nature just like the flags she loved to display were a testament of her patriotism.Melissa also loved to sing anywhere and didn’t worry about who was around. If she could sing a song right now, it would sound like this:
“And though the night is cloudy,
There is still a light that shines on me,
Shine until tomorrow, let it be.”
Melissa is survived by her beloved daughter and legacy, Kassandra Jean Fruin of Naugatuck, mother Sharon Smith of Naugatuck, brother Sean Murray of Wolcott (wife Carrie), sister Megan Dickerson of Powder Springs, GA (husband Jeremy), her nieces and nephews Lyla, Reagan, and Colin Murray and Sawyer Dickerson. She is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and her closest friend, Sarah Fernandes. She was predeceased by her father, Kevin and her aunt, Maureen Murray.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Monday, January 16, 2017 at Saint Vincent Ferrer Roman Catholic Church, 1006 New Haven Road in Naugatuck. Friends and family are invited to go directly to the church. Calling hours for all friends and family will be held from 1:00pm until 4:00 pm on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street in Naugatuck, CT. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery on Cross Street Naugatuck.
