WATERBURY - Mrs. Wilma Blackman nee Elcock, age 86, widow of the late Arnold Fitzgerald Blackman and sister of the late Eileen Elcock of Barbados, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, January 17, 2015 at the Waterbury Hospital.

Mrs. Blackman was born in Barbados on October 30th, 1928. She is the daughter of the late Oscar Greaves and Violet Elcock. She was raised in St. George, Barbados and attended the St. George Secondary School in Barbados.  She worked as a nurse’s aide and care giver. She took up residence with her daughter in Connecticut in 2005.

Wilma loved her children dearly. She was a caring, sensitive, self-sacrificing woman with strong disciplinarian qualities.  She laid a firm foundation for her children to build upon.  She was very creative and enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, ceramic crafts and trinquettes. Wilma also like gardening and was industrious and thrifty with money.

She was a member of the Black Rock Seventh Day Adventist Church Community Services Group in Barbados and the Dorcus Society which ministers to the those in need.  Wilma was a woman of prayer and therefore was a member of the Prayer Warrior Group there.

She loved the Lord with all her heart from a child and accepted him as her personal savior and then later joined the Seventh Day Adventist Church in the 1970's.  She became a strong pillar of faith and held very high standards of morality. On Saturday morning, January 17th at about 10:45 a.m. Wilma fell asleep in Jesus, but before she passed, she bore this testimony that she saw Jesus and subsequently, we believe that she will rise again on that great day of the resurrection morning.  Let us be faithful that we might be re-united with her in the kingdom of God.
